We can’t have anything nice in this world. That I understand that we are all human and can be physically attracted to someone, but, Is it necessary to go to a park that is potentially an area where kids and whole families go every day to take dirty pictures? I see it even worse if we take into account the fact that, in the Ghibli park of Studio Ghibliobviously most of the characters present represent minors. Well, that’s where it’s happened in Japan now.

Park Ghibli falls into a terrible and quite unexpected controversy

Since a picture is worth a thousand words to comment on these things, I’ll leave you with several of the samples that went viral in Japan (via @tkatsumi06j):

And for those who think the thing is going to stay with four guys who are funny, the truth is that the subject has degenerated a lot (via ANN):

  • Obviously the photos are very clear: more than one can be seen touching boobs and taking upskirt pics to statues of some of the Studio Ghibli characters. These are the only samples that appear to have gone viral, but there could be more.
  • For its part, Studio Ghibli has not commented. or any movement in this regard. However, the governor of Aichi prefecture, one of the main promoters of the construction of Ghibli Park, did not sit idly by.
  • Thus, during a press conference, he declared that these photographs were “extremely unhappy‘ , and ‘Ghibli Park is a place where children and adults can experience the fun of the Ghibli movies. I don’t want people doing things that might be offensive inside the park‘. For this reason, he asks Park Ghibli workers to prevent visitors who are seen from doing things like those seen in the footage.
  • In the end, the governor of Aichi said that He identified those who took the pictures, and who were preparing to take ‘drastic measures‘ with them. It’s possible in the end that there’s some legal action involved, though that’s something yet to be confirmed.

Some may believe that a mountain is made from a grain of rice, but Studio Ghibli does have standards for its stories and characters in which sexist behavior like this has its place. Since there are already plenty of sectors of the anime industry that are more “adult” oriented or just “ecchi” based, personally I find it in very bad taste and an example for the little ones to go to Ghibli Park to smear characters who have accompanied a lot growing up for a good handful of years.
