Everything indicates that the new and final season of stranger things —which will be the 5th— will take time to arrive, but fans will have plenty to entertain themselves in the meantime. The prequel to the series, which will be titled Stranger Things: The First Shadowit is already a reality; although it is not as many think.
American media published in 2022 that the Duffer brothers, creators of fiction, they had created their own production company to continue expanding the universe seen in the series. The title was quite a statement of intent in terms of continuing to exploit the phenomenon –Upside down pictures—, and despite the fact that this initiative was linked to a commitment to Netflix with several projects, it will remain off the platform.
It’s not that the Duffers are going to sign with another company, but that this prequel will come in the form of a play. It will be played at the West End Theater in London, and even has an approximate release date: You can go see it once the season is over. A tram called Désir, with the Oscar-nominated actor Paul Mescal until the end of 2023. Here is the teaser released by production managers:
As if that weren’t enough, it already has a little official synopsis, confirming the return of some of the series’ most beloved characters. Of course, 25 years before the start of the first season, in 1959: “Young Jim Hopper’s car won’t start, Bob Newby’s sister doesn’t take his radio show seriously and Joyce Maldonado just wants to graduate and quit school.” When the new student, Henry Creel, arrives, his family discovers that a new beginning is not so easy and that the shadows of the past have a very long reach.
Police Chief Hopper is recognized from this text; Jonathan and Will Byers’ mother—with her maiden name, of course—; Bob, who was previously seen in the show’s second season as Joyce’s boyfriend; and Henry Creel, who staunchest fiction fans will also know as Vecna. And although it seems that they are very far from the events that begin to occur in 1983, the same account of the work reveals that it “could hold the key to the end of the series”.
A production with expectations
The theater that will house the work will be neither more nor less than the one that has already been the home of Harry Potter and the Cursed Childwhich has enjoyed great success since its inception in 2016. For this reason, it is expected that this new adventure of stranger things to be an excuse for fans around the world to enjoy seeing him on stage.
Stephane Daldryits director, could have met and worked for one year with masters of illusionism to develop magic tricks and special effects for the constructions. And it could have to do with how they portray the Upside Down and the powers of Creel live, plus the occasional surprise they’ll surely save for their premiere.
