An off-duty pilot was on board a flight when the pilot of the plane began to experience a medical emergency.

Southwest Airlines Flight 6013 had just taken off from Las Vegas when the pilot required medical attention, details of which have not been released.

The pilot who was part of the crew and accredited with another airline reportedly assisted with radio communication while the second pilot from Southwest flew the plane back to Las Vegas.

“On Wednesday, March 22, Southwest Flight 6013 from Las Vegas to Columbus, Ohio returned to LAS after departure when one of our pilots required medical attention. The flight landed safely and returned to the gate. We commend the crew for their excellent flying skills and professionalism in handling this event. The flight has been renewed and our passengers have been transported to their destination,” read an official communication from Southwest.
