NEW YORK – A 62-year-old woman was killed and her 41-year-old son was injured after the latter tried to intervene in a possible murder-suicide attempt at the family’s Staten Island home, a senior official said. law enforcement.
According to investigators, NYPD officers responded to a Blythe Square in Richmondtown shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday, following a report from an emotionally disturbed person. When they arrived, they added, they found the woman in a bedroom. The woman had been stabbed two or three times and was pronounced dead in a hospital, the senior police official said.
Her son, who had injuries to his hands, told detectives he heard his parents arguing in their bedroom and went to open the door, only to find it locked. He eventually broke down the door and saw his mother bleeding on the floor, according to the NYPD. His father was sitting up in bed trying to stab himself in the chest with a knife, the son said.
According to the son, he took his father’s knife and ended up with cuts on his hands. He was taken to hospital and is expected to be fine. The husband was due for surgery on Monday and authorities were unable to speak to him, the senior police official said.
The investigation is ongoing.
