The Covanta plant is still burning and firefighters are working to collapse part of the structure to reach the fire.

“We have walls that are still standing on the south side and that’s a challenge for the structural engineers that are on site,” said Ray Jadallah of the Miami-Dade Fire Department.

The Environmental Protection Agency remains firm with the recommendation to stay indoors for those residing between Northwest 74th Street and 92nd Street.

People with pre-existing respiratory and heart conditions, the elderly, young children and pregnant women should wear a face mask if they must be outdoors.

For now, nearby public schools like Andrea Castillo High School and Ronald Reagan High School plan to return to school on Tuesdays after the Presidents Day holiday.

It is not excluded that parents will be informed of changes to the school calendar for next week.

Doral Glades and Doral Legacy parks remain closed and all outdoor programs in the area have been canceled.
