NEW YORK — Multiple shootings in New York City over the span of three hours on Monday left one person dead and at least four injured, police said.

One of the shootings occurred just before 6 p.m. along Rockaway Boardwalk next to Rutland Road in Brownsville, police said. Two people were shot outside a liquor store, one in the abdomen and one in the leg, police said. Their terms were not immediately clear.

Less than two hours earlier, another shooting had broken out in Brooklyn, this time in Canarsie. Police say Nelson Ortiz, 24, was shot twice in the chest outside a grocery store on Avenue L and died from his injuries.

Even earlier in the day, about an hour before the deadly shooting in Canarsie, a shooting was reported in the Bronx, police said. A man was shot in the head near the Bronx office of New York Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie in the Baychester neighborhood.

A witness said he heard four gunshots in Fenton Avenuenear East Gun Hill Road, all in broad daylight.

The victim is said to be in critical condition in hospital. Police say the suspected shooter fled in a white BMW sedan.

No arrests have been made in any of the three cases, and police investigations are ongoing.
