A police investigation ensures that street car racing, in addition to being illegal, has even caused fatal shootings.

It is one of the most difficult activities for the authorities to control, it is street racing which, to some, seems like fun, but is a serious crime.

Today, Miami Dade Police announced the arrest of at least 7 people behind the spontaneous encounters.

Alexis Perez is the latest suspect arrested and now faces 16 charges for organizing street races.

Authorities said the 19-year-old was the leader of a large group that seized the intersection of Northwest 27th Avenue and 54th Street at 2 a.m. last Sunday.

Perez is accused of causing mayhem by driving a red Chevrolet Camaro and skidding before fleeing from police.

Investigators say Pérez communicated via WhatsApp and Instagram to have cars block specific intersections so he could perform these aerobatic maneuvers. The youngster confessed to being the main organizer of the ‘melt me car’ club after being questioned by officers.

The police officer also accuses six other people of being involved in Sunday’s meeting: all aged 17 to 20.

The investigation revealed that these events led to criminal activity such as shootings and traffic accidents which police believe resulted in loss of life.
