Salsero Willie Colón is hospitalized in serious but stable condition after a brutal traffic accident in which his wife Julia was also injured, reported his communication director, Nell McCarty.
In a message posted on the artist’s account on Sunday, McCarty said the accident occurred on Tuesday, the 20th at 4 p.m. on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
“The Colóns were pulled out of the rubble and taken to a local hospital,” it says.
The artist suffered a concussion, a fractured C1 cervical vertebra and head injuries that required 16 steps and for which he had to be transferred to another hospital: General Sentara Norfork, in Virginia.
For her part, Julia Colón suffered lacerations and bruises, was treated at the Outer Banks Hospital in Nags Head, North Carolina, and released.
Only the Colón car was involved in the accident, of which further details are unknown.
The salsa icon will be transferred as soon as possible to a hospital in New York.
