Residents who live very close to the airport Van Nuys they complain about the intense noise and pollution caused by private jets flying over their homes.
Neighbors in the area allege that the traffic has multiplied. Private planes land and take off very early from this terminal and locals complain about the noise.
“Because we work a lot like Zoom and Meetings and things like that, sometimes when we’re on the phone and you can hear the noise of planes,” says Jennifer Rico, who works near the Van Nuys airport. .
A group of Japanese researchers presented this Thursday in Tokyo an autonomous suitcase that avoids obstacles in order to guide the blind at the airport without the need for a cane or a guide dog.
Neighbors say the noise and pollution problems are nothing new, so they have already filed their complaints with the Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) commission.
Some ask for consideration for area residents and students, taking into account the times when flights are allowed.
(They should) change the schedules, (have) more respect for working people or children around school,” says Angelica Rosas, who works near Van Nuys airport.
But members of LAWA and the airport authority have previously said they cannot regulate the times or number of flights at Van Nuys airport.
“The Federal Aviation Administration allows us to do certain things and prohibits us from others,” the Van Nuys airport supervisor said.
“So it’s the education that comes from meeting the members of the community and sharing with them what are the regulations, among other things, that allow us to make certain changes.”
For now, the thefts continue and residents will have to wait to see if the mayor of Los Angeles does something about it.
The Los Angeles City Council will call for more transparency from LAWA, the agency in charge of the airport, and will also hear complaints from the public during the session to be held on Friday, March 3, 2023.
