Ubisoft is closing several European offices due to a decline in physical game sales, among other changes in the business environment. An excerpt from an email from the company was posted on ResetEra, revealing that Ubisoft Benelux is among the offices closing.

Ubisoft will close its offices from April 2023

The email cites “external factors” as the reason for the closures. Speaking specifically from the Benelux office, Ubisoft said “most” of its employees will leave from April 1.

“At the moment, Ubisoft is facing several challenges due to external factors, such as the decline in the volume of sales of physical games in favor of digital sales, the centralization of marketing by digitizing all our communication channels, the passage of large commerce versions to F2P., mobile and seasonal games and smaller physical shows,” the email read.

It’s unclear which other Ubisoft European subsidiaries will be closing, but the mention of “less physical shows” is interesting as the company has just announced its presence at E3 2023. However, Ubisoft is one of many companies that have made the transition to such physical digital exhibits. in fact, events have decreased significantly in recent years.

For now, it looks like the closures are only affecting Ubisoft’s marketing and distribution offices.
