Puppy thrown from moving vehicle during a chaotic two-hour chase involving two vehicles that passed through several Los Angeles communities is returning to the custody of LA Animal Services.

The manhunt for a 27-year-old attempted murder and carjacking suspect began around noon Friday near 101st and San Pedro streets in the South Los Angeles area.

Police chased the pickup truck with a badly damaged front suspension through the LAX area, where the driver slammed into cars at a red light before pulling over and getting into a stopped getaway SUV on the street.

At one point, the pup was placed in a designer bag and thrown from the moving vehicle. LAPD officers rescued the dog, which was turned over to South LA Animal Services.

The dog appeared unharmed, police said.

The pup will remain in the custody of animal services pending an investigation, police said.

The hunt continued in several South Los Angeles communities with a line of patrol SUVs trailing behind. At one point, a rear tire on the SUV was damaged.

He ended up in a West Carson neighborhood with three people in custody, including the attempted murder suspect.
