NEW YORK – Authorities are investigating the death of a 20-year-old woman who apparently jumped from the roof of a Times Square hotel after a disturbance in the room she was staying in left a wreck, New York police said Wednesday in New York.
According to a uniform, officers received multiple 9-1-1 calls regarding a disturbance on the tenth floor of the OYO Hotel 157 W 47th Street in midtown Manhattan. Officers arrived around 10 p.m. Tuesday. Shortly after, the police received the call about the alleged roof jump.
Police found a 24-year-old man in the room where the woman was. They said the place was ransacked like there was a problem. Cops say they are investigating the possibility that the man attacked the woman before she jumped, but at this time they do not believe he threw or pushed her out of the building, authorities said.
Officers had to Taser the man in the lobby while he was taken into custody and later transported him to Bellevue Hospital in what they described as an emotionally disturbed state.
The identity of the woman has not been released. There was a baby less than a year old with her and the man, police said. The child was left in the care of a stranger during the incident and was not injured.
Police said charges are pending against the 24-year-old that may relate to possible child endangerment or a possible assault investigation. No other details were immediately available.
