The case is being investigated as a homicide. No arrests have been made yet. Several hip-hop stars took to social media to pay their respects to Pat Stay.

Eminem wrote, “hiphop lost one of the greatest fighters of all time. RIP.”

Fellow Canadian artist Drake commented on a recent song released by Stay and wrote, “Pat Stay is definitely one of the best, if not the best.”
Stay was the father of two young children. A GoFundMe campaign, verified by the platform, has been set up for his family to help with the funeral expenses.

“It has been taken out of the world very soon and many will be devastated forever,” reads a message from the campaign organizer.

“Pat Stay was a very honorable man who was on his way to a bright future. Our hearts ache for his family and friends at this time, so we hope to help ease some of the pain by making sure his family has help through this process.”

In a 2020 interview with the Canadian publication Signal, Stay discussed his work ethic and offered his advice for aspiring artists.

“If you’re doing a beat, throw it out and then do 5,000 more. If you have like 10 songs and you think they’re good, do a lot more,” Stay said. “The best people in this industry are working hard, every day. It’s a routine.”
