There is nothing left to enjoy the first holiday period of this 2023, the Holy Week. Although not all communities celebrate Holy Thursday as a public holiday or Easter Monday, public holidays are marked in red on the calendar.

But the truth is that not all workers will be able to take advantage of a few days off, so for those who will and who have already more or less planned their trip, the Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU) has published a list with 7 tips for not ruining your holy week and being prepared.

You could say it’s about a “survival kit” for travelers in case there are obstacles in the adventure.

OCU tips for Easter 2023

  1. rentals. From the OCU they warn against these “too good and cheap” rentals and urge consumers not to believe everything they see and to be wary of these accommodation offers which, in many cases, represent fraud. To avoid falling into the trap, the entity advises calling the owners by telephone to find out the conditions.
  2. Reservations. Regarding accommodation, the OCU advises, in addition to checking the accommodation conditions, to make reservations as soon as possible. Not only to secure a place, but also to be able to benefit from offers and discounts. Of course, these are reservations with “flexible cancellation”.
  3. Car rental. One of the keys to always consider when renting a vehicle while on vacation is to check the rental agreement and the condition in which the car is delivered to you. “The lack of basic information in the contract and abusive charges for alleged anomalies at the time of the return of the vehicle are the most frequent complaints”, they remind the organization.
  4. Cheap flights. There is a special warning for travel on low cost airlines, such as Ryanair, Vueling, Easyjet, Eurowings, Wizz Air, Norwegian… And that is that passengers check the final price set by these airlines , because they often add supplements in the price to go in seats together or for carry-on baggage.
  5. Combined trips. In cases where travelers choose flight + hotel offers or this type of combination, the OCU informs that they offer more legal guarantees. The agency and the company offering the service share responsibility and there are penalty limits if the client cancels the trip,” they explain.
  6. health card. Yes, it’s one of those reminders that parents always make when their children go abroad, but it’s also one of the organization’s recommendations, especially if you’re going to a country in the European Union (EU ). Although if it is a foreign destination, they advise to use travel insurance “with the highest possible coverage”.
  7. collect evidence. If during the trip the possibility of filing a complaint arises, it is essential to take contracts, advertising, payments and reservation data with you.
