The authorities of the city of New York contemplate that next week they could begin to attend to the hundreds of immigrants who have arrived in the last two months in their first Center for Assistance and Response to Humanitarian Emergencies which will be installed temporarily in the parking lot of Orchad Beach, in the Bronx.

The objective is that the large tents that are being erected are ready to offer orientation, food and even accommodation for foreigners lacking legal documentation..

In this regard, Zach Iscol, commissioner for Emergency Management and who will also manage the Help Center, recognized the local government’s obligation to help the homeless.

“The recent influx of asylum seekers seeking refuge in the city is a huge challenge. And it’s a great example of collaboration between our city’s agencies. We are facing a humanitarian crisis and it has never been clearer that we need to help and support them.“, he indicated.

The official also clarified that immigrants will only be able to stay up to four days in the facilities, as they will help them go to the destination where they originally planned to reside in the United States.

“Our goal is to figure out where they want to go and do everything in our power to help them get there. We want to give them 24 to 96 hours to do everything in our power to get them where they want to go,” she noted.

It transpired that the Help Center will be able to accommodate a thousand adults who must be distributed in five tents, where single men and women must remain separated. However, there will also be a special area for couples.

During their stay, the undocumented will receive three meals a day and medical assistance, but they will also have recreation rooms available where they will be given advice to reunite them with family or friends.

According to data from the city government, it is estimated that more than 15,000 immigrants have arrived with the hope of staying in the United States permanently.
