Eric Adams, the mayor of New York, delivered a State of the City address, where he announced that Uber and Lyft vehicles must have a zero-emissions fleet by 2030
New York Mayor Eric Adams delivered a State of the City speech on Thursday, in which he highlighted, among other issues, that Uber and Lyft vehicles must have an all-electric fleet by 2030.

The measure is in line with the policies of New York, which has a new climate plan that seeks to reduce the carbon footprint, which includes important changes in shared ride transportation companies, which must be zero emissions within seven years. .

The New York decision will affect some 100,000 rental units from both companies and will apply in all five boroughs of the state.
The mayor emphasized that the measure will require more efforts from his administration to electrify the vehicle fleet in the city while installing the necessary charging infrastructure to power the zero-emission vehicles.

In this regard, Uber and Lyft have ruled that their vehicles will be 100 percent electric by 2030.

“Uber has been making real progress to become the first zero-emission mobility platform in North America, and there is much more to do,” said Josh Gold, Uber’s senior director of policy.

Paul Augustine, Lyft’s chief sustainability officer, said: “New York’s commitment will accelerate an equitable transition to electric across the city, and we look forward to collaborating with TLC on an ambitious plan for a standard mile clean in carpools.”

Adams said both companies are embracing the change and that all city vehicles, including buses, are also in the process of going zero emissions.
