A total of 20 migrants were detained after border agents discovered them hiding at the base of a trailer trailer, said Austin Skero, chief of the Del Rio Sector Border Patrol.
At first glance, the truck was carrying a variety of materials.
However, a dog trained to detect suspicious activity alerted Del Rio Sector Border Patrol agents to the presence of the people, Skero said in a tweet.
Once officers removed the boards from the base of the trailer, they discovered two children and 18 adults crammed underneath, it added.
The incident would have occurred this Monday at a checkpoint in the Del Rio area, southwest Texas.
“With rising temperatures, smuggling attempts like these have a high potential to turn deadly,” said Skero.
