In February 2003 we hosted the first recording of an artist destined to become one of the biggest names in the Spanish music industry: melendi. The Asturian artist then began a dominance of the sales charts and the LOS40 list that has continued to this day (he was number one in 2021 with Beret and the song Desde cero). Now that the man from Oviedo is celebrating 20 years of career, we want to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Lágrimas desordenadas.

It was his ninth number 1 on the LOS40 list, which already included great songs like Tu jardín con enanitos, A violinist on your roof, With only a smile, Calle la Pantomime, Barbie of the suburbs… Songs that showed its progressive evolution which gave it it led from the most rumba and hooligan pop to the most melodic hits and in recent years to the influence of Latin sounds.

In addition to this musical change, Melendi has also undergone a resounding makeover. His musical transformation was accompanied by an aesthetic transformation that did not please everyone. But his artistic and personal freedom is also something he has always defended tooth and nail.

The song that now celebrates its 10 years as number 1, Lágrimas desordenadas, also gave its name to this recording project. It was his sixth studio album in which he flirted with his rocker side. His song sought to claim its essence to which Melendi added the experience of an artist with a long and successful career, which made him one of the most important performers and composers in the country.

“It seems contradictory and it is so; it’s messy because there are songs that could have been included in my first album and also songs that would have been perfectly part of the last, all mixed in with the backbone of the album, songs like Check to portamor, Tu jardín with dwarfs or A gentleman’s apprentice. But disorder also makes sense. Life and music are nothing more than continuous learning. That’s why I believe that I will never make an album that is the same as another or of the same style, and in the long run the styles will they mix and intertwine to form discs like this which will contain 12 messy tears” he explained at the time on its website.

Melendi hasn’t had it easy with contestants like Will.I.Am and Britney Spears with Scream and shout, Bruno Mars with Locked out of Heaven, Swedish House Mafia’s Don’t you concern child, Kesha with Die Young, One more night from The 5th try of Maroon Pink. If you want to enjoy them all, don’t miss this playlist.
