McDonald’s closes U.S. offices and prepares for a series of layoffs

Recently there has been a wave of massive layoffs in U.S. companies and the next company to join these events is the fast food chain, McDonald’s.

McDonald’s, through an email, communicated to its employees to work from home for a while, in anticipation of a staff downsizing. This action has created a high level of uncertainty among the company’s workers, as it is not the first company to announce a staff cutback, as Alphabet, Microsoft and Vox Media were the first to do so.

In 2022 Chris Kempczinski, the company’s CEO, stated to his investors that they were going through a small recession in the United States, which is why some jobs will be eliminated while others will be moved.

According to a report of the 2022 earnings report, McDonald’s sales increased by 10%, compared to comparative consumer spending which had increased by 5%, despite that profits had decreased by 18%. This was due to the war in Ukraine and the sudden closure of several restaurants in the country.

It is expected that by the end of the week the exact figure of the number of layoffs of the fast food restaurant will be known, hoping that this will be the last company to join the series of layoffs in the United States.
