The police of New York arrested a man armed with an AK-47 assault rifle who was in front of the house of the Iranian-American journalist Masih Alinejad known for her criticism of the regime of Iran.
Alinejad, 45, was the target of a kidnapping plot by Iranian intelligence agents last year, according to US prosecutors.
The detainee, Khalid Mehdiyev He was charged with one count of possession of a firearm with the serial number removed and a judge ordered him held without bond. Police found a loaded AK-47 and about 66 rounds of ammunition in the detainee’s car.
“These are the terrifying scenes that capture a man who tried to enter my New York home with a loaded gun to kill me”, Alinejad wrote on Twitter along with images from security cameras.
Alinejad is known for her criticism of the Iranian clerical regime, including her demand that women veil themselves.
