Beginning October 6, Los Angeles residents will be able to reapply for speed hump installation on streets in their neighborhoods, authorities reported Wednesday.
The city will resume the Neighborhood Speed Hump program, which was suspended due to the COVID pandemic, in order to direct resources to health emergency care and recovery efforts.
“Nothing is more important than the safety of Angelenos, and we need every tool at our disposal to slow down drivers and prevent tragic collisions,” said Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti.
“Every decision we make about our streets must keep the well-being of our residents in mind first, and resuming this critical program will help keep our children and families safe while making our roadways more accessible to all,” added the Mayor.
According to the Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT), applications can only be submitted online at a link to be provided on the program page from 9:00 am on Thursday, October 6, 2022.
The authority recommended that, because high demand is expected, applicants apply immediately once the period opens.. Applications will close when 375 applications have been submitted (25 in each City Council district).
To know the evaluation guidelines of the program, you can consult this link, and to determine if your street meets the criteria required for the installation of the reducers, you can follow this link.
It was clarified that only one person in charge will be allowed per street segment request and it will have to be the block representative.in addition to being the one who receives all correspondence related to LADOT personnel.
Between 2017 and 2020, more than 800 speed bumps were installed.
LADOT said resources are distributed equitably in each City Council district, and speed limit, incline, width, and drainage conditions will be considered on streets that submit an application.
Residents who previously submitted applications for the installation of speed humps will have to reapply.
