As announced by representatives of Matsumoto and the mangaka’s family, Leiji Matsumoto, pseudonym of Akira Matsumoto, died on February 13 from complications of acute heart failure. Matsumoto’s eldest daughter reported the following about the death:
“Mangaka Leiji Matsumoto has gone on a journey to the sea of stars. I think he has lived a happy life, intending to continue drawing stories as a manga artist. We will meet again.”
