The atmospheric river-fed winter storm caused road flooding and landslides in various parts of Southern California.
A major stretch of La Brea Avenue, which runs through the Baldwin Hills, was closed for much of the morning due to the landslide.
Some drivers found themselves narrowly stuck in the washout. The road was closed from Stocker Street to Coliseum Street,
A driver passing the road at 2 a.m. said ‘it came fast, didn’t give me a chance at all’, in reference to the landslide and mud that blocked the road.
The Los Angeles Fire Department reported that fortunately no one was injured.
Los Angeles Public Works crews arrived at the scene to clear the lanes.
“This morning our crews worked to clean up a landslide on La Brea Avenue due to recent rains,” the Department of Public Works reported. “We will also be working with the Los Angeles Department of Transportation to install K-tracks for additional protection.”
Authorities have asked for caution in the area.
