Delete and new account. This seems to be the idea behind the new recording project of Kesha. The Californian artist revealed through his renewed (and empty) Instagram wall all the details of his new musical adventure which will be titled Gag order and which will be released on May 19.
With this new studio album, the fifth of her recording career, the one from Los Angeles culminates 3 years of work giving shape to an LP in which it seems that her legal battle against Dr. Luke will serve as the backdrop. In fact, the name of the LP refers to an American legal term close to the figure of indictment. Although in reality for her it looks more like a gag.
the cover of Gag order reinforce this idea. It shows a close-up of Kesha’s head in a plastic bag. The feeling of suffocation, of not being able to speak or breathe, seems to be the most immediate sensation that the American artist wants to convey with the image.
She herself was tasked with explaining that the album comes at one of the times when she felt most vulnerable. A kind of “emotional exorcism” as the LP’s press release explains. In fact, he wrote a kind of manifesto for Nylon a few days ago on Gag order: “Without darkness there would be no light. So I illuminated my darkness. I cannot fight against the truth. Life is difficult and painful. It is for everyone. An artist does not exist not to make others happy. I believe that an artist, he gives voice, movement, color to the emotions that we all have. The good emotions and the uncontrollable miserable.”
From the result of showing all these emotions, their insecurities and their new strength and empowerment through music, we will have a brief appetizer this weekend. Because on April 28, Kesha will present two of the songs that will be part of this work: Fine line y Eat the acid.
popular producer Rick Rubin is behind this work whose final list of songs remains to be known as well as if there is any collaboration that will be part of it.
After the musical break he took between warrior and rainbow, which coincided with her rehab for an eating disorder and the ensuing legal battle against producer Dr. Luke, Kesha hasn’t stopped working. In 2020, he publishes Highway – a more alternative and deeper album – and the following year, in 2021, he participated in various collaborations with artists such as Gradson, Walker Hayes and Sam Feldt.
2023 will be the year of his great musical comeback after three intense years of personal and musical introspection to reign again on the charts.
