The maximum organizer of the world cup, Dorna SportsBeside the FIM (International Motorcycling Federation), the WRITTEN BY (Association of Independent MotoGP Teams) and the MSc (Sports Motorcycle Manufacturers Association) announced the incorporation of sprint races to be held on qualifying Saturdays at 3:00 p.m. (peninsular time).

How it works?

Many doubts remain as to the operation and procedure of this new format in the motorcycle world championship. From the distance to be covered, to the point or classification system for the Sunday race.

Sprint races will have a approximate distance of 50% of laps finished in full stroke. The grid procedure will last 15 minutes and the rules are the same as a Grand Prix.

Punctuation system

Points will be awarded to the first 12. The first to cross the finish line will receive a total of 9 points, and the last – 1 point.

The sprint race system allows more drivers to have the opportunity to score points during a race weekend.

Here’s what the weekends will look like in 2023

MotoGP will have two practice sessions on Friday. There FP1 will last 45 minutes and the FP2 will arrive on time. These times will determine which drivers will advance to Q2.

On Saturday, the premier class will have a free practice session of 30 minutes, followed by qualifying sessions of fifteen minutes each. And at 3:00 p.m. the sprint races.

On Sunday a lot of things change, especially for the lower categories. Moto2 y Moto2 removes their overheating. MotoGPwhich will take ten minutes.

The action on the track will be decided from 11 am with the Moto3 race; the Moto2 race will take place at 12:15 p.m. and the main MotoGP race at 2:00 p.m.

Dorna’s goal for this season is increase the impact of MotoGP in the fans without reducing that of Moto2 and Moto3.
