Carlangas, full name carlos pinero He has been in the music industry all his life, but due to things in life, he is now releasing his first album after his previous and successful band disbanded. News Carmine. In our interview with him over coffee, we review his career, influences, fatherhood and more.
P: Are you presenting your new solo project, the first album with new sounds?Where did the influence for this record come from?
A: To prepare this disc, I immersed myself in several groups, I fed on many different artists. In addition, all the people who accompanied me helped me a lot. I’ve lived with many amazing producers and musicians. Without a doubt, there have been several groups that I have listened to more than the others, such as, for example, Gorillaz Package
P: What advantages do you think of having to release a first album with all the previous experience of your previous band?
A: Everything we learned, not only in musical. Having five albums and so much time in the industry made me meet a lot of people who were involved in this album. Knowing each other for a long time, they were able to help me and know my language and what I’m looking for with my music.
On the other hand, in the most artistic part, so much time devoted to the music makes you see everything with another look and have a fuller head and despite the fact that it is an album which is a collage of styles, it was clear for me how I wanted it to sound and look some consistency.
P: It’s been about a year since you left the band, what’s the main difference when it comes to composing on your own?
A: Well, I don’t think there’s a big difference, often the songs start from a first sketch, a first idea of before and now it’s very similar. Although now I no longer have the limits of a group. Now, despite being solo, I play with a lot of people and I think the musical palette is wider. In the beginning, the time to compose is the same or very similar, but when it comes to producing it is very different.
Q: There are a lot of bands like Izal, the killer swing etc they leave What do you think this is due to?
A: I have no idea why other bands left it, but I know why we left it. In the end, we had to do a little exercise in honesty and when we thought about the next projects of the band, we realized that our energy was very low and that it was not the time to do it and we just decided to take a little break to see if we could get the energy back or what happened.
P: This new project is very well received on digital platforms, did you expect it that way?
A: I didn’t expect anything, I wanted to make music and continue. I made music before, during and I will continue to make music afterwards. For this reason I wanted to get rid of this plug to make music. I wanted to try the songs live, record, perform and tour. I didn’t expect anything, but it’s true, I’m very happy.
P: ¿What does this job represent for you?? In recent years, you have become a father. WhatHow did this experience influence your music? And in life in general?
A: It’s not that it influences music, it influences life. It’s the most powerful trip I’ve ever had in my life. It’s all about living much stronger. Now I have much higher joy peaks and equal stress. It’s a roller coaster which I am very happy about. Also, that to make music you have to be a bit withdrawn indoors and it definitely achieves that. He takes you to the bag. It influences a lot and I share a lot of music with him, we listen together and I am very happy to experience this together.
P: These are very elaborate and heartfelt letters, Did you change in one way or another your way of composing?
A: The only thing that changed was that I started the album quite sad because of the farewell to Novedades Carminha since I wasn’t expecting it at that time. And I had to go through a duel. Seen in perspective, I started the first saddest songs and I was already finding my joy, because for me music is joy. I have a predisposition for joy and I want to encourage it with my songs. This is the line to follow in my project of carlangas.
P: In MONEY You talk about a love-hate relationship. Do all relationships end like this over time?
A: If you don’t deal with it, of course, I always say that you shouldn’t settle for anything, neither in life, nor in love, nor in music, and if you are able to achieve that as a couple, you succeeded.
P: One of the coolest songs on the album is Night has fallen. How did it work with Manu Chao ?
A: For me it was a dream, he is an artist I have listened to all my life and with whom I share a lot of references, a lot of music. The fact that it’s on my record is a gift of life. Also, he was very involved and I learned from him. If they had told me when I was 14 that I would have a song with him, I wouldn’t have believed them.
P: You said on Insta that going from rockerite I made you miss some cumbia. What else did you miss?
A: I put it because I really like the sentence, I read it the other day in a bar and I liked it. For many years, decades actually, I’ve been very open to music, as long as it’s good, I like it.
P: How did the production of this project go? You have taken a lot of care in making this record. Who or what do you think played a key role in bringing about this unique album in terms of production?
A: First of all, work with people who had a lot of artistic connections, work with people with very different perspectives and achieve mutual consistency. I surrounded myself with the most tops.
Q: In ‘QueSiQuiero’ you sing “Painting with a pen in the toilet “News Forever”. A nice tribute to your old band. Are you nostalgic when you think of News from Carminha?
A: Without a doubt, it’s one of the first songs I wrote for this new project and it suits them. I was nostalgic and wanted to reflect that in this sentence.
P: What is your main goal with this record and with the live show?
A: This album helped me figure out what I wanted to do with carlangas, What sound was I looking for and what I wanted the next record to sound like, which is already more or less on the way.
For me, living is a ritual, where people go and forget all the bullshit you’re going through and you’re gonna have a good time, love flirting, let go of all the problems, and that’s what I want.
