Illinois person wins $1.28 billion in Mega Millions lottery

The winning number of the largest US Mega Millions lottery prize of 1,280 million dollars, the third largest in US history, was purchased in Illinois, as confirmed by officials of this American multi-jurisdictional lottery this Saturday.

The winning number (13-36-45-57-67, Mega ball: 14) was sold at the Speedy Café Speedway gas station in Des Plaines, Illinois, according to the Illinois lottery.

The odds of winning the jackpot were one in 302.5 million.

The winner has the option of receiving the 1,280 million dollars in 30 annual payments over 29 years or a single cash payment, which for this draw had an estimated amount of 747.2 million dollars, about 457.5 million dollars after taxes.

The prize reached such a high sum because since April 15, none of the numbers sold had all 6 winning numbers.

Mega Millions is known as the state lottery, even though it is only played in 45 states, Washington DC and the US Virgin Islands.
