The wait continues for hundreds of San Bernardino Mountain residents as road clearing efforts continue, and there are reports of families still trapped in the snow.

At the moment, it has not been easy to reach the affected families, the authorities are working on it and using all their resources.

Hundreds of residents of the San Bernardino Mountains regions remain more than concerned about the situation they are living in, many in the ridge line area say food is scarce and help has not reached them, only what some volunteers bring as distress signals are seen from the air

“Although several agencies in San Bernardino County have reported that the priority is for people who are still unable to leave their homes due to heavy snow accumulation, but not all roads have been accessed , but some groups of people organized themselves and brought groceries to the Lake Arrowhead ridge line area,” said Crestline resident Pedro Vargas.

“We’ve been here since this morning and brought in food from various stores that have donated for people living in this area who have been affected by the snow,” said volunteer Lucy Spence.

Some stores and markets are already stocked with produce and food, but for many families their homes are still buried in 4 or 5 feet of snow, making it difficult to get out.

“We are waiting here to go up from 11 a.m. to continue digging in the ice because there is a lot of weight of ice in the house,” said Isac Castrejon, a resident of the region.

A dozen National Guard members are helping with logistics to help affected families and help coordinate the cleanup, but authorities say more needs to be done.

“At this time, the roads that lead to the mountainous areas where entire communities live are still closed to traffic, only a few are allowed to pass under escort by sheriff’s officers,” said Ramon Duran, spokesperson for California Highway Patrol.

Authorities said they expect conditions to improve in the coming hours.
