Cuban-American Francis Suárez, mayor of the city of Miami, announced that he will seek reelection for that public office in the elections to be held in November.
During an interview with Las Americas newspaper, The young politician warned that he is “the only person in this city who has shown ideas that can be fulfilled, with friends at the federal level to benefit our residents.”
In a brief review of his tenure as mayor of Miami, Suárez recalled that his campaign promises in the last election were kept. For example, low-cost housing was built and “I battle every day to reduce taxes.”
As promises for his new administration, the Cuban-American ally has billionaire Elon Musk, the visionary founder of Tesla.
Together with the Californian businessman, the mayor promises the construction of an underground tunnel, that will allow the transfer of up to 60,000 people every hour. This will alleviate the complex problem with vehicular traffic in the city.
Suárez clarified that the funds for the road infrastructure would be provided by Tesla. “In Las Vegas it was done under the financing of the company itself,” recalled the Miami president.
The tunnel will be “like a mass transportation system. The difference is that, instead of being train cars, the cars are Tesla and move on a paved track. It is something that can be built much cheaper than other transport systems ”.
Francis Xavier Suárez was born in 1977 and is a lawyer by profession. Since 2017, he has served as the 43rd mayor of Miami, a position for which he was elected with 86% of the votes.
Suárez, the son of former Miami Mayor and current Miami-Dade County Commissioner Xavier Suárez, also serves as vice president of the Miami-Dade Transportation Planning Organization (TPO) and is the former president of the Miami-Dade County League of Cities.
Francis Suárez very demanding with sanitary measures to face Covid-19
Faced with the measures taken by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, which annul health recommendations amid the Covid-19 pandemic, Miami Mayor Francis Suárez complained of little support from the state government.
In an interview with CBS News, Suárez complained that the state governor’s orders contradict sanitary measures and prevent him and other Florida mayors from enforcing their own laws to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
DeSantis withdrew the order for the mandatory use of the mask in the state, an essential rule to prevent Covid-19 infections.
