NEW JERSEY – A devastating event unfolded in a New Jersey town after a shooting left two parents and their teenage children dead on Sunday morning.

The authorities responding to the family’s home, located at Chatham Square in Linden, at around 9:30 a.m., they found three of the victims dead and a fourth, one of the minors, still alive but in critical condition.

Police sources with knowledge of the case believe the father shot his wife and children before turning the gun on himself.

The teenager was rushed to Newark University Hospital but eventually died of injuries sustained in the shooting hours later, authorities confirmed. The mayor said the teenagers were 13 and 14 years old.

Authorities believe the suspected shooter is among the dead found in the home and there is no longer a threat to the public.

“Linden is a strong community and we will support them in any way we can as they grieve and recover,” Gov. Phil Murphy said in a statement late Sunday.

Additional details about the incident and the investigation were not made available.
