ORANGE COUNTY, Florida. – Thalle Construction teams are mobilizing resources and delivering materials in preparation to launch a flood mitigation project in the community of Orlo Vista this week.

Work is underway adjacent to the Oak Crest Mobile Home Park and Westside Manor neighborhoods.

Torrential rains from Hurricane Irma in 2017 caused major flooding in this region and similar flooding occurred last year when Hurricane Ian brought record levels of rainfall.

Residents of the Orlo Vista community are expected at the information meeting this Tuesday 21st to learn more about the work in progress.

The meeting will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the Orlo Vista Chamber of Commerce located at 38 South Hastings Street, Orlando, FL 32835.

The scope of work for the project includes the excavation and redevelopment of three existing stormwater ponds to increase the volume of flood mitigation. A new 48 inch water main will drain water from the area and into Shingle Creek.

New pumps and pipes will also be installed to reduce pond water levels, creating additional capacity before a major rainfall event.

“This project will increase the volume capacity of the three nearby ponds and ultimately improve the level of service provided to the Orlo Vista neighborhood,” said Liliana Ramírez, Assistant Project Manager, County Public Works Stormwater Management Division. of Orange.
