NEW YORK – The double murder of two neighbors found dead two days apart in their respective apartments in the Bushwick Houses complex in Brooklyn is the latest case reported on the “Unsolved Mysteries” podcast.

Although investigators have claimed over the years that their deaths were linked, the question remains: who brutally murdered Ana Del Valle, 62, and her neighbor Basil Gray, 54, in 2018?

The episode “Double Murder on the Fifth Floor” delves into the horrific mystery that unfolded in the Bushwick Houses 5C apartment on Moore Street, where Del Valle and Gray lived.

Del Valle, a Hispanic grandmother, was found dead on May 11, 2018 from a gunshot wound to the head and with her hands tied. His body was discovered in the living room of his apartment by his own daughter, Mireya Del Valle, when she returned from work. The police found three shell casings inside the apartment.

“I’m trying to figure out what happened, why did they have to do this,” Mireya told our sister network News 4 New York last year.

Two days later, on Sunday, May 13, 2018, at approximately 4:40 p.m., Gray, 54, was found dead in the nearby Del Valle apartment.

Family members who had not heard from Gray since May 10 of that year found him lying unconscious on the ground when they came to check on him, New York police said during an investigation. a press conference at that time.

Gray was pronounced dead at the scene, but may not have died that day.

The NYPD said it’s possible Gray died on the same day and around the same time as Del Valle, as evidence indicates the same weapon was used in both murders.

Detectives also said no one called 911 to report any shots when the two were allegedly killed.

Police are still trying to determine if there was a connection between Gray and Devalle other than their closeness as neighbors.

Additionally, there was no forced entry into either apartment, police said.

Five years after their death, the mystery continues. Although there were several leads, no arrests were made as the police did not file any charges due to lack of evidence.

“We’re trying to get people to speak up and get justice on behalf of our mother,” Miraya told News 4 New York. “It’s the only thing that keeps us going.”

The investigation is ongoing with New York police and the FBI asking the public for help. A reward of up to $50,000 is offered for information about the mysterious deaths of Del Valle and Gray.
