A Montclair family is calling for justice as they say officers used excessive force against an Antonio Ibáñez, who is now in a coma in hospital.
“He won’t wake up again, they’ve already taken him from here, I want justice, they give him back to me. I want my son to go back!” cried Antonio’s mother.
This morning, Antonio’s mother, family and friends carried signs reading ‘Justice for Tony’.
We know my brother is not coming back, but right now I am speaking on behalf of my mother, who is physically, emotionally and mentally affected,” said Abraham Rojo, the victim’s brother.
On March 5, Montclair police said they received a call reporting a drug-impaired, 42-year-old Hispanic man, armed with an object, threatening a woman who was inside a vehicle with his daughters.
Arriving at the scene, the officers entered the house and one of the rooms and attempted to arrest him calling for the police to arrest him.
The Montclair Police Department entered his house, there was no emergency, there was no danger, no one was in danger, they entered his room and began to beat him several times, with a truncheon, then used electric shocks, which caused them to be sent to the emergency room,” said Christian Contreras, a lawyer in the case.
Several establishments have been the target of robberies by robbers in Orange County. Authorities have revealed security camera footage where some subjects are seen committing their misdeeds.
After his arrest, Ibáñez began to exhibit medical emergency symptoms, for which medical personnel assisted him with cardiopulmonary resuscitation at the scene, before being transported by ambulance to the Montclair Hospital Medical Center. where he remains in a coma.
“They did it to my nephew, the next one can be you, you or you,” the victim’s uncle said.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department is continuing the investigation, but the family is also awaiting police body camera video.
