An elderly couple were rescued and managed to escape from their burning home just before everything was reduced to ashes. The woman says she did everything to get her 90-year-old husband out of the house.

According to firefighters, the fire started under the structure of the mobile home located in the 400 block of South Pine Island Road. Davie’s family was moved after the fire which broke out at noon on Sunday.

Sergina Kern, who was displaced after the fire, says it all happened very quickly and before the flames started to burn she dragged her 90-year-old husband from the scene. Shortly after, her home of so many years, the interior was reduced to ashes.

The city fire department responded quickly and several officers worked for hours to bring the blaze under control, which officials say started under the residence’s floor.

Although the reason for the incident is still under investigation, the owners say it appears to be an electrical short.

For now, Sergina and Curtis are trying to come to terms with what just happened to them and today they are just grateful to be alive.

The gentlemen who have been moved say that this mobile home is uninsured as they had already paid for it in full, so at the moment they do not know what their future will be. Tonight they will sleep with a relative.
