The case keeps moving a humble family from Miami’s Cuban community who, after losing their son, are asking for help with funeral expenses and to be able to offer support to a one-month-old child who has become orphan.
Relatives of the young man from the province of Pinar del Rio are currently wondering why a stranger randomly killed his relative while he was returning home.
“Pobrecito miniño que era del trabajo pa’ la casa, nunca en la vida tuvo problema aquí”, says Berta Marino, the mother of Jean Gutiérrez, a hombre of 38 years old who was asesinado in tiros the noche del jueves justo cuando llegaba de his work.
The alleged perpetrator was 25-year-old neighbor Donovan Adrian Watson, who after hiding in his apartment and confronting officers with gunfire ended up being killed by authorities early Friday morning.
It all allegedly happened in an apartment complex located at 19851 Southwest Miami-Dade on 114th Avenue.
“Supposedly they say he had mental issues, I don’t know…I know they killed him. It killed me,” says Berta Marino, the murdered young man’s mother.
The victim, according to his mother, was an autistic person. “With everything and that, he always wanted to work and he never wanted me to handicap him in this country. ‘No mum, I want to work, I want to work,’ said the mother, who was all her son asked.
“He never had a problem at all and the only thing he dedicated himself to was walking down the aisle talking to the woman from Cuba,” who is now a widow and with a 4-month-old baby who will never see his father again.
“I adored my husband, I adored him. He was mad because he got the passport to come, so he could take me there with him to be together,” victim’s wife says from Cuba.
Pablo Gutiérrez Chili, the father of the victim, specifies: “There is nothing there. If anyone wants to offer their condolences and do this help, I accept it with a lot of love and a lot of heart, thank you very much”.
He says while emphasizing that any help the community can provide will be appreciated as the family now faces unforeseen expenses after the death of their son, who also leaves a newborn orphan in Cuba.
