CREED III review: Maximum entertainment that delivers and misses along the way

CREDO III is the new opus of this saga derived from the rocky franchise. Directed and starring Michael B. Jordan next to Tessa Thompson, Jonathan Majors there Harris Woodthe tape continues to tell us the story of Adonis Creed, who is now enjoying his success as a boxer, but very soon his past will return to collect his debts.

The tape shows us a bit more about child Adonis, something that was left behind in the second episode. However, in this third part, we go back 20 years to learn a little more about the past of ‘Donnie’ and also introduce you to one of his great friends, who is now back to settle scores.

Jonathan Majors plays Damien “Dame” Anderson, Donnie’s best friend since they were together in a “house band”. Majors is definitely the detonator of this story with a performance that sets off all the alarm bells from the moment he appears on camera when he visits Jordan’s character outside the gym.

Jordan and Majors engage in a reality check. One, that of the poor and abandoned boy who managed to be a great boxer, succeed and start a family, while the other lost 20 years in prison and now wants to make up for lost time.

Michael B. Jordan makes his directorial debut in this film. His directing shows us he has the woods to show us something new and fresh on screen, using stop motion in the fight choreography. They even evoke great moments from the world of anime. In addition, he manages to frame several scenes that will easily become fond memories of this saga.

Jordan handles the pacing of the film very well, blending drama and suspense with the action and adrenaline the story needs to keep you hooked. However, the story seems very superficial. Jordan fails to tell us much more than an unresolved conflict from the past that, of course, now needs to be resolved in the ring. For what the opportunity to create an even more mystical vibe about Adonis Creed seems wasted.

Of course, the absence of Stallone how Rocky hits hard throughout the delivery. In a few scenes, it’s clear that Jordan meant that Creed lacks characterbut it also offers the vision that we must move forward and this is now the saga of adonisresting the whole load on his shoulders.

Jordan considers it impossible to walk away from the Rocky saga. And it is that the structure of the acts in the film, It is designed with elements and situations extremely similar to the events of Rocky III, IV and V, but which are now emphasized by the character of Creed and his story. This is very obvious to those who are big fans of the Rocky franchise, which will generate some nostalgia, but it could also feel unoriginal, more like some sort of remake, which I find ill-advised.

CREED III is pure entertainment with an excellent soundtrack

The soundtrack, for its part, maintains the style and essence of the Rocky franchise with a more modern touch, and full of Hip-Hop and Rap.

The CREED III score was provided by Joseph Shirleywho had worked with Ludwig Göransson on the two previous films.

Shirley is joined by a few stars from the Dreamville label who have finished composing this soundtrack which keeps us spellbound throughout the film.

Finally, and despite some asterisks in its script, the direction and production of CREED III is correct and beyond being a film to analyze, This is a band that seeks to entertain to the maximumwhile trying to make a place for themselves, but without losing the essence and the strength of what characters like Rocky Balboa have given so much to the franchise.

Without a doubt, the Creed saga shows us that he can continue with Michael B. Jordan as the franchise’s now leader and that has a great responsibility to maintain Rocky’s legacy. However, the absence of Stallone and the character himself, who isn’t even named in the whole gang, it weighs a lot and it’s a load that we will now have to learn to carry on our shoulders. Not an easy task.
