WASHINGTON – Two Capitol Police officers sued former President Donald Trump for alleged “physical and emotional injuries,” which they allegedly suffered during the January 6 attack on Capitol and that they allege that the former president incited.
Officers James Blassingame and Sidney Hemby accuse Trump of leading the assault, aiding and inciting the actions of the violent protesters. The uniformed men, who have been in the police force for more than a decade, each claim at least $ 75,000 in damages and are the first to file a complaint after the assault on the legislative headquarters.
Trump has yet to respond to the lawsuit, but his supporters, including his attorneys in his impeachment over the attack, argue that he did not incite the crowd that gathered at a rally before the assault. The violent incursion sought to stop the certification of the electoral results that awarded Joe Biden the victory.
