According to a report from the agency AP, Authorities responded to a call about a shooting in a trailer at Canterbury Mobile Home Park in Colorado Springs at approximately 12:20 am, but luckily no children were injured, with the fatalities being of legal age.
In the preliminary report of the event, law enforcement officers point out that the armed man who broke into the party was the boyfriend of one of the fatalities and after committing the murder of 5 other people, he shot himself to kill himself. In total the deceased would be 7, but there are some injured that required hospitalization.
The authorities have not revealed the names of the victims or the shooter, as the motive that led the murderer to commit the act has not yet been determined.
“From the officers who responded to the shooting to the investigators still on the scene, we were all incredibly shocked. This is something you hope will never happen in your own community, in the place you call home,” highlights the press release from Colorado Springs Police Chief Vince Niski.
“My heart breaks for the families who have lost a loved one and for the children who have lost their parents,” added Niski.
For his part, State Governor Jared Polis said that “the tragic shooting in Colorado Springs is devastating, especially since many of us are spending the day celebrating the women in our lives who have made us the people we are today”.
These 7 deaths represent the worst mass shooting in Colorado since a gunman killed 10 people in a Boulder supermarket last March 22.
In 2015, another similar event shook the city when a man killed three people, including a police officer, and injured eight others in a shooting at a Planned Parenthood clinic.
Colorado Springs, with a population of 465,000, is the second largest city in Colorado after Denver.
