A U.S. Coast Guard vessel rescued 18 Cuban rafters on Sunday who were sailing in a rustic boat in international waters.

A Telemundo 51 crew aboard a Coast Guard plane witnessed the moment the ship was sighted, about 30 miles from Key Largo.

The plane’s crew called for units at sea to approach the ship and at around 4 p.m. a coastguard boat managed to rescue all 18 people on board.

No injuries were reported among those rescued at sea.

For the moment, the fate of the rescued Cubans is unknown, but normally migrants intercepted at sea by the coast guard are returned to the island.
