A car received at least 15 shots and a man was injured after an incident reported early Monday morning on a stretch of the I-95 freeway in Miami-Dade, authorities said.

The incident happened around 4:15 a.m. according to information shared by the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).

FHP officers responded to a single-vehicle accident in the southbound lanes of I-95 in the area of ​​US-441. A brown and black Mercedes SUV collided with a tree as it left the road on the west side of the freeway.

When they arrived at the scene, officers found the vehicle with 15 bullet holes on the left side. The car was abandoned in place by the occupants.

Shortly after, the driver of the Mercedes van was admitted to Jackson North Hospital with an apparent gunshot wound. The subject was transferred from there to Aventura Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the FHP report.
