If there’s one thing about football anime and manga, it’s that there’s no fear of directly referencing football players and clubs from reality. One of the most legendary examples is the Catalonia of “Oliver and Benji”, that it was FC Barcelona, or more recently with “Blue Lock” and its various mentions of Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. NOW, “Ao Achi“wanted to add one more to these curious cases by making that CE Sabadell is the protagonist of his latest manga cover.

Then you can take a look at the cover of the 31st volume of the manga “Ao Ashi” to see exactly what I’m talking about (via Manga Mogura):
- As you can see, Not only does the kit inside the sleeve have the same tones used officially by CE Sabadell, but also the shield itself can read ‘SABADELL’. Obviously, Ao Ashi can’t use the official shield as such for rights reasons (which is quite common).
- The other good news Ao Ashi is that it has currently reached 17 million copies sold worldwide.. At the time, the anime allowed the popularity of the work to grow remarkably.
- The first season of the anime came to adapt until volume 12 of the manga of Ao Ashi, especially chapter 117. With 31 volumes to date, it is possible that even a second season will not show us this fragment of history. with CE Sabadell at the center, but it would be surprising if the anime didn’t have enough continuity to make that happen.
It’s always curious when manga and anime decide to make these references, but I find it particularly striking that CE Sabadell even made it to a manga cover. The truth, I think it really shows that Yuugo Kobayashi and Naohiko Ueno are digging into everything they need in the football world to create meaningful history in the sport.. Personally, the first season was the one that convinced me a lot more than I expected.
