After last Thursday, November 4, the witnesses for the defense of Paul Naranjo did not appear to deliver their statements in the middle of a hearing, which had to be interrupted, a judge ordered the “urgent conduction” of two of them to give their testimony in the trial that is being carried out for the alleged femicide of Ana Maria Castro.

And it is that the death of the 21-year-old university student, who died in strange circumstances on March 5 of 2020 after spending a night with Julian Ortegon, Paul Naranjo and Mateo Reyes. In a night establishment in the north of Bogotá, it continues to give something to talk about because, despite the fact that the first two have already been prosecuted for alleged femicide, the case is still under development and with new advances.

The last thing that was known was that, in the absence of witnesses, Naranjo’s lawyer asked that a driving order be made with the aim of collaborating in the search for justice. As well, the 42nd criminal judge of the Bogotá Circuit ordered the conduction of the defense bench witnesses, after two people, called to testify by the defense attorneys, did not appear before the office that is handling the process, so there could be legal sanctions in case of not answering the call.

The witnesses called to testify are Hugo Alexander Forero and Daniel Alejandro Vega, who must be conducted with the National Police to testify at the trial.

The summons, revealed by the newspaper El Espectador, were issued last Thursday and sent respectively to the homes of Vega and Forero under the reference “urgent summons”. Similarly, the judicial officer requested the collaboration of the commanders of the Engativá and Suba police stations to bring the two witnesses to the stand.

And, according to the Colombian code of criminal procedure, witnesses who refuse to appear in trials when required, and their subsequent reluctance to testify, could be punished with arrest of up to 24 hours and even initiate criminal proceedings. against him.

In dialogue with RCN Radio, John Cadena, defense attorney for Paul Naranjo, confirmed that, after having requested that Hugo Alexander Forero testify at the trial for being the first person to arrive at the place where the victim was (calle 80 # 69k east-west direction) and that he had refused to attend, the judicial officer ordered his driving urgently to the hearing.

In addition, he added that the same request included the name of Daniel Alejandro Vega Novoa, another of the witnesses who, according to the Prosecutor’s Office, arrived minutes after, apparently, the young university student had been thrown from the moving vehicle that Naranjo was driving and in which Julián Ortegón was as co-pilot.

However, it should be remembered that the cook Daniel Vega already appeared in this trial on September 20, but as a witness for the accusing body. He was also called for questioning by defense attorneys John Jairo Cadena and Gilberto Rondón.

At the time of what happened, the man was the driver of a transport platform and contacted the 123 emergency line to ask for help after seeing that the young woman was thrown from a vehicle.

In virtual hearings he declared that “that was the day I saw the girl get thrown out of the car”, mentioning what he observed that morning. He explained that he was moving at a speed of 40 kilometers per hour on Calle 80 (with Carrera 59), while waiting to take a new service in the application.

I was going on the route to my house, no service came out, I had already taken 80th Street, I was going normal through my central lane when I see a truck that makes a sudden movement, they open the car door and they bounce or the girl falls to the floor and as it falls, it remains”, he commented at the time.

He also noted that “from my right side (driver’s position) a boy comes out and hits my car and starts asking for help and I said: ‘Who are you, where did you come from?’, and he said: (Mateo Reyes) I She came in another car and they left me behind, but they threw her away, help us, and I said ready, I’m going to help”.

The truth is Daniel vega is one of the key witnesses for the Prosecutor’s Office, since he was the only one who, in the course of the trial, declared, under the gravity of oath, that he saw when the young Ana María was thrown from a moving vehicle on Calle 80.

For his part, the biomedical engineer Alexander Forero must also appear, in person or virtually, to give his testimony, since it is one of the most important letters for the defense since his account totally contradicts Vega’s testimony.

The importance of Forero’s statements lies in the fact that, on several occasions, this man has claimed to be the first person to arrive at the scene, see the body of Ana María and speak with Mateo Reyes.

This man has declared to the media, as quoted by El Tiempo,

I arrived first and there were no more cars, a man, Mateo Reyes, ran into me, but I was scared, I thought they were going to rob me, I went straight and then went to the woman on the floor, I knew something happened, so I called 123 and I returned, in that more than three minutes passed and I returned.

In addition, he has indicated that he saw Mateo Reyes very excited and very strange in his behavior, because his statements did not make sense with each other.

However, the Prosecutor’s Office has not questioned this person in the hearings, a situation that Paul Naranjo’s defense is also questioning.

DOCTOR SAYS THE WOUNDS COULD NOT HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY A HUMAN BEING

In a new hearing, held this Monday, November 8, scheduled since last month, and that would last until 1 in the afternoon, spoke Alejandro Cuenca, a general practitioner at the University of Los Andes, and made it clear that the injuries on the body were not caused by a person.

The human being does not have the strength to cause the blows that the young Ana María Castro had”, Alejandro affirmed, adding that the Prosecutor’s Office omitted evidence that two additional vehicles that passed through the place could run over Ana María.

According to El Tiempo, the specialist’s experience began in 2018 and she learned necropsy protocols at the National Institute of Legal Medicine and after graduating she became a forensic doctor.

In traffic accident issues, she worked in a company that is an expert in analyzing medical records. The person who interviewed her in the first instance was Julián Ortegón’s lawyer, Gilberto Rondón.

After analyzing the videos of the Tolima Junkyard, Cuenca analyzed: “The truck (of Paul) leaves the place keeping the right lane and after it has left two vehicles are seen passing through the middle lane and they have not been identified. A sedan and a Van don’t stop”.

Finally, and based on the descriptions, photos of the necropsy and the forensic physics report, the doctor concluded that Ana María Castro presented a high-energy injury pattern on the right side of the body, with very important injuries to the skull, thorax, abdomen and right knee, probably caused by a simultaneous high-energy trauma, such as that which can be generated when being run over by a vehicle.
