Two shootings happened very close to each other. Tuesday’s one that left a grandmother in critical condition on her apartment balcony happened here and Monday’s one that left the teenager paralyzed happened in an apartment complex less than 100 feet.
At the Village Square apartment complex in Delray Beach, just after 1 p.m. Tuesday, a 77-year-old woman standing on her balcony was suddenly hit by a bullet.
Dani Moschella, spokesperson for Delray Beach Fire, said: “The woman was there alone and family members were around. Some had just entered and when they came out they saw that I had been shot.
The woman, identified by her nephew as Anne Pierre Louis, was rushed to a nearby hospital.
Delray Beach Police spokesman Ted White said, “We believe she was not the target in this situation.”
For hours, detectives gathered all the evidence and marked the bullet holes.
It comes 24 hours after another shooting occurred at the nearby apartment complex on Monday, leaving a teenager injured.
“When the police arrived they found a 16-year-old boy with gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital where they told us he was paralyzed from the chest down,” White said.
So far, authorities have not made any arrests in the two shootings, so they are asking for help.
“We believed there were witnesses in the neighborhood and are asking the public to come forward and speak to our detectives,” police said.
Authorities have yet to confirm or deny the link between the two shootings as they continue to investigate and search for whoever was responsible. Any information should be reported to the Palm Beach County Helpline.
