NEW YORK — American actor Jonathan Majors was arrested in New York over the weekend for allegedly assaulting a woman, local media reported Monday.

Majors, 33, who recently starred in ‘Creed III’ and ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’, was arrested after police received a complaint from an apartment in the Chelsea area of ​​the borough Manhattan New Yorkers. .

According to a police statement reproduced by various media, the victim, a 30-year-old woman, claimed to have been assaulted and to have “minor injuries to the head and neck”.

He has been charged with strangulation, assault and harassment, according to police, who said Saturday night that the actor was no longer in custody.

The majors’ lawyer, Priya Chaundhry, stressed that her client is innocent, in a statement collected by CNN.

“We are rapidly gathering evidence to present to the District Attorney in the hope that all charges will be dropped imminently,” Chaundhry wrote in a statement.

According to the lawyer, this evidence would include the woman’s written statements retracting the charges, as well as video footage of the car where the incident allegedly took place and various testimonies.

After learning what happened, the U.S. military announced that it would pull two advertisements to recruit volunteers that featured majors.

“While Majors is innocent until proven guilty, caution dictates that we are withdrawing our advertisements until the investigation into these allegations is complete,” the armed forces said in a memo.
