Police say 20-year-old Garrett Leyva of Hanford called 9-1-1 around 10:45 a.m. and told them he had stabbed his ex-girlfriend and her brother.

When police arrived at the home on W Orange St. they found an 18-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman had been stabbed to death.

It is believed that the suspect came to the home following a break-up with his girlfriend, identified as the female victim.

“He was upset over that breakup and that’s what led to the altercation,” says Hanford Police Chief Parker Sever.

“I made sure I told their mom that this is not her fault, it’s not the fault of her daughter. There’s only one person that’s responsible for this crime and that’s the person that committed it,” said Hanford Police Chief Parker Sever.

They also found the Leyva suffering from stab wounds.

He was taken into custody and taken to the hospital where he is listed in stable condition.

Police are not sure how he was stabbed and say it may have happened during the altercation.
