If you’re tired of meta decks and looking for a fast deck that can be really fun to play, maybe Dinosaurs can help. While the dinosaur decks of Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel for the most part doesn’t focus on any particular archetype, these builds tend to mix and match and use the power of destruction to create synergies and bring out powerful monsters. So what should building a dinosaur deck look like? Let’s review what you need to know.

monsters

The dinosaurs depend on the monsters in the main deck, so it’s important to understand this part well. Here is an overview of the recommended cards:

  • (x3) Max “C” – Handtrap that adds drawing power, as a card can be added to the hand by Special Summon during the turn it was activated. Very useful also to discourage opposing players from invading the field, especially since this deck prefers to go second in most cases.
  • (x3) funny and locked bird – Closes the opponent’s ability to add cards from the Main Deck to the hand. Very useful in clashes against the Drytrons.
  • (x3) Ash blossom and joyful spring (optional) – Droll & Lock is preferred here, but Ash is another option. You can undo a multitude of different cards.
  • (x2-x3) Animated Ornate Archosaur – Level 1 monster that can destroy Dinosaur Monster from hand or field, and add Double Evolution Pill to hand. The main targets are Babycerasaurus (preferred) or Petiterandon.
  • (x3) miscelaneosaurio – Key equipment of this deck. Protects dinosaurs from monster effects during the main phase when discarding. You can also Special Summon a Dinosaur from the Deck with a Level equal to the other monsters banished with it (for example, Miscellaneousaurus + 1 = Level 2 Monster).
  • (x3) bebecerasaurio – Can Special Summon a Level 4 or lower Dinosaur Monster from the Deck after being destroyed. It can be destroyed by Animadorned, Souleating Oviraptor, Ultimate Conductor Tyranno, Scrap Raptor or Lost World.
  • (x2) Oviraptor comealmas – Adds a dinosaur to the hand during a Normal or Special Summon. You can also destroy one level 4 or lower dinosaur on the field per turn.
  • (x2) The definitive leader of the Tyrant – 3500 ATK monster that can be Special Summoned by Banishing Two Dinosaurs or via Double Evolution Pill. It can also disable the opponent’s Xyz, Link, or Synchro Summons via a secondary effect.
  • (x2) scrap raptor – Tier 4 Dinosaur Tuner that can be used to spawn cards and extend combos via Scrap Wyvern or Borreload Savage Dragon.
  • (x1) scrap chimera – Used in conjunction with Scrap Raptor.
  • (x1) Petitrandon – Additional destruction option with Babycerasaurus. It should only be destroyed if it is in hand and the baby is not available.
  • (x1) giant rex – 2000 ATK beater who gains ATK equal to 200 x number of banished dinosaurs. He can be Special Summoned when banished, either by Miscellaneousaurus or Double Evolution Pill.
  • (x1) Dinoluchador Pankratops – 2600 ATK monster that can be Special Summoned from the hand when the opponent has more monsters on the field than you. You can also pop a monster on the field.
  • (x1) Systegosaurus Dinofighter (optional): can be executed if no scrap monster is used. It can research Pankratops when Special Summoned.

Due to this deck’s special summon ability, dinosaurs can invade the field at will. Combined with Miscellaneousaurus, combos can be relatively uninterrupted in most cases and have a high chance of OTKing the opposition in one turn if the terrain is set up favorably.

In most cases, you’ll want to start with Miscellaneousaurus and Babycerasaurus. This enables the special summoning of Animadorned, simultaneously with the start of the process of destroying other cards and special summoning the Boss monster: Ultimate Driver Tyranno.

It should be noted that because this deck likes to come second, it contains a sufficient number of hand traps. Cards like Maxx “C”, Droll & Lock Bird, and Ash Blossom all disrupt opposing players’ combos, so we can’t stress them enough.

spells

Now on to the spells:

  • (x3) dig up fossils – Hunt dino monsters level 6 or lower. It is mainly used to research Miscellaneous or Babycerasaurus.
  • (x2-x3) lost world – Field spell that reduces ATK/DEF stats of non-Dinosaurs by 500. When a dinosaur is normal and/or special summoned, add a normal dinosaur token to the opponent’s field. The token can be used as protection, as it prevents the opponent from targeting cards other than themselves, and can be burst and shielded to destroy Baby from the deck.
  • (x1-x3) Electric Storm – Very good for this deck, since it prefers to go second. Destroy Attack Position Cards or Spell/Trap Cards on the opposing side of the field. You must not have any face up cards to activate.
  • (x2) double evolution pill – Banished a non-dinosaur monster and a dino monster from the graveyard or the hand to summon a level 7 or higher Dino (either Pankrotops or Tyranno, in this case). It can banish Giant Rex, as well as hand traps or non-dinosaur Link monsters like Linkuriboh.
  • (x2) called by the grave – Banishes the Monster from the opposing Graveyard and cancels its effects. It is mainly used to nullify hand traps.
  • (x1) crossed out indicator – Can banish Ash or Maxx, but only if your deck is the same card.
  • (x1-x2) twin tornadoes (optional) – You can destroy up to two Spell/Trap cards. Wields spells/traps, just like Lightning Storm.
  • (x1) Raigeki (optional) – Basic spell that destroys all monsters on the field on the opponent’s side.
  • (x1) harpy duster (optional) – Basic spell that destroys all enemy spells/traps on the field. It can be used instead of Lightning Storm.

The spells used for this deck are primarily used to create an advantage on the board. Fossil Dig is the most important map here, as it’s used as a fairly general research tool for the game. Do you need a Miscellaneosaurus or a baby? Fossil Dig can get it, just like Pot of Prosperity can be used in congruence with Fossil Dig. Meanwhile, Called by the Grave, Lightning Storm, and Harpie’s Feather Duster are options that can be used to blast the opponent’s board.

traps

  • (x2-x3) infinite impermanence (optional): can negate monster effects, block spaces on the board, and be used as a hand trap on turn 1.

Since this is a fast-paced deck, many trap cards don’t make much sense in this type of build. Unless you want to dabble with infinite impermanence, feel free to skip the traps.

additional blanket

Here is an overview of the Extra Deck options:

  • (x1) Savage Dragon Borreload – 3,000 ATK Synchro monsters that can be summoned with Scrap Raptor and Chimera. It can negate effects while Borreload Counters is on it.
  • (x1) Evolzar Dolkka – Tier 4 Xyz Monster that can be summoned with two Tier 4 Dinosaurs. It can negate the effects of monsters at the cost of an attached material.
  • (x1) Evolzar Laggia – Same treatment as Dolkka, but with spells and traps.
  • (x1) inhabitant of the abyss – Rank 4 Xyz Monster that can disable opponent’s monster effects in the Graveyard.
  • (x1) Number 60: Dugares the timeless – Tier 4 Xyz Monster that adds more draw power.
  • (x1) Arsenal Divino AA ZEUS – Sky Thunder – ZEUS is more optional than necessary, but can be used as a drummer.
  • (x1) Linkuriboh – It can be used to quit, also as material for Double Evolution Pill.
  • (x1) garden safe – Can be used to add Linkuriboh to GY, as well as add protection.
  • (x1) pentestag – Link 2 which allows the co-linked Monster (hint: Ultimate Conductor Tyranno) to inflict piercing damage to Monsters in Defense Position.
  • (x1) Junk Wyvern – Link 2 used in consultation with Scrap Raptor and Chimera. He can spawn cards, as well as special Raptor summons from GY, and add Chimera to the hand. This is a good card to use first, as it can be used to set up Apollusa.
  • (x1) Knight Cerberus – Bind 2 monsters capable of destroying a specially summoned monster on the field.
  • (x1) Phoenix Knight – Bind 2 Monsters capable of destroying a Spell/Trap on the field.
  • (x1) Unicorn Nightmare Knight – Bind 3 targetable monsters on the field and shuffle it into the deck.
  • (x1) Selene, queen of magicians – Link 3 which can be used if the Droll & Lock Bird is in cover. Otherwise, it can be ignored in favor of something else, like Decode Talker.
  • (x1) Apollousa, Ark of the Goddess – Link 4 monster that acts like a large Floodgate thanks to its denial ability. He must be summoned, if possible, he must go first.
  • (x1) Talker Password – Link 4 Monster that must be Special Summoned with Link 3 Monster, as it can increase Accesscode’s ATK up to 6300. You can also burst cards on the opponent’s side of the field.

Extra Deck monsters are primarily used for support, but can be used as alternate victory conditions. Ideally, Dolkka or Laggia should be used alongside Tyranno, while Borreload can be used as an additional negative option if you have Raptor and Chimera on the field. Alternatively, Accesscode Talker can help weed out heavy hitters, if needed.

Dinosaurs might seem tricky at first, but be very careful if you’re up against this game. This build has a ton of firepower and a variety of combos available. Don’t sleep with dinosaurs.
