Microsoft has been very outspoken in offering Sony 10 years of Obligation on PlayStation following the acquisition of Xbox by Activision Blizzard, an offer also extended to Nintendo this week. Although Nintendo has already agreed to the deal, the PlayStation owner has yet to agree to anything like that, although Microsoft thinks it’s better than Sony’s current deal with Activision Blizzard.

Speaking to CNBC after yesterday’s EU court hearing, Microsoft Chairman Brad Smith had a lot to say about the acquisition and how Xbox thinks it offers “a better offer for Sony”.

“So when we release a new version of Call of Duty on Xbox, it will be available on Sony PlayStation on the same day, on the same terms, with the same features. (the agreement) really provides parity.

I think anyone who’s watched this would say it’s a better deal for Sony than the one they currently have with Activision Blizzard which is due to expire next year…”

While we’ve heard of these guaranteed parity levels before, this is the first time we’ve heard from Smith about Sony’s current contract with Activision Blizzard, i.e., its expiration. As it stands, it looks like PlayStation’s current Call of Duty exclusivity contract expires in 2024.

Even with such a short notice period in this existing deal, it doesn’t seem like it’s pushing Sony to sign anything with Microsoft. This week, the PlayStation owner again failed to reach an agreement with Xbox over the future of Call of Duty should the Microsoft acquisition go through.

Here’s an excerpt from CNBC’s interview with the president of Microsoft, including all of the Call of Duty talk:
