Microsoft has just announced a new ecological controller. The Special Edition Xbox Remix Wireless Controller looks organic, and its design is described as “earth-toned colors with subtle variations, swirls, markings, and textures.”

But that’s not all that’s impressive about this new controller. The body of the device is made entirely from recycled resins, which means less waste and a cleaner planet. On Xbox Wire, Microsoft explains it this way:

“We aspire to create a future of play in a world we want to play in. Earth Day is fast approaching and offers us all a special opportunity to reflect on how we can improve our impact on the planet. To celebrate this year, we’ve created an Xbox controller that incorporates reclaimed plastics, one-third of which are made from shredded and salvaged materials.”

And as if that weren’t enough, the packaging is also eco-friendly, with recyclable materials and no single-use plastic. Plus, it comes with an Xbox rechargeable battery to avoid single-use batteries. This new controller is an example for the video game industry, as it shows that it is possible to create durable peripherals. This is a step in the right direction, and we can only hope that other companies will follow.

The Xbox Wireless Controller Special Edition Remix will be released on April 18but it can already be reserved through the Xbox Store.
