Microsoft is celebrating ten years of the (email-protected) program this week, and one thing we’ve learned in the process is that the (e-mail-protected) team is trying to make it easy to create disc versions of their games for independent developers.

In a post by Chris Charla (Director (Email Protected)) yesterday on the official Xbox site, Charla mentioned that Developers (Email Protected) can create physical versions of their games with just a ” minimum minimum order” of units required, and this program will be rolled out to more developers in the near future.

“Ironically, we’ve even enabled retail disc publishing for developers on Xbox (email-protected) digital desktop publishing program This retail program is still in a pilot phase with a limited number of partners, but developers can create physical versions of their games with only a “minimum order quantity” of physical Xbox units.

We hope to roll this out for wider participation in the near future (developers, stay tuned to our April newsletter for more info here).”

In theory, this means that many indie Xbox games could get physical releases in the future, although that obviously depends on whether the developers/publishers involved think the investment is worth it.

It’s good to see Xbox trying to make this process easier for (email-protected) partners anyway, and hopefully that means we don’t have to rely solely on Limited Run for physical versions of niche in the future.
