Microsoft and Sony might be embroiled in a war of words over the Activision Blizzard acquisition right now, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be nice to each other once in a while! For example, the new BAFTA award for Shuhei Yoshida.

Yoshida, former chairman of Sony Worldwide Studios, received a BAFTA scholarship for the 2023 BAFTA Games Awards, described as “BAFTA’s highest honor ever given to those who drive positive change in the screen arts”.

Following the announcement, Xbox Director Phil Spencer and Xbox Vice President of Games Marketing Aaron Greenberg took to Twitter to congratulate the Sony executive, as did many other industry insiders.

Phil Spencer: “Congratulations on the well-deserved recognition of your many contributions to the gaming industry.”

Aaron Greenberg: Congratulations Shu, your impact on this industry and game development has been profound. Lots of respect for you and the times we’ve had to connect at events over the years. I love seeing you recognized like that.”

Xbox and Shuhei Yoshida have had a very friendly relationship over the years, including in recent times where Yoshida has openly praised Xbox events and releases; he even sent the Xbox team a bottle of wine to celebrate. infinite halo Launching at The Game Awards in 2021!

With that in mind, it’s great to see a number of Xbox employees taking the time to congratulate Yoshida on his prestigious award, which he will receive in London later this month. You can read more about the event below:

“The award will be presented to Yoshida at the 19th BAFTA Games Awards on March 30, at the Queen Elizabeth Hall on London’s South Bank, and will be streamed live exclusively on Twitch.tv/BAFTA from 6:50 p.m. BST. The ceremony will be hosted by esports and gaming host Frankie Ward and will feature a lineup of stars from across the world of gaming and digital entertainment.”
